Search Jackson County Court Records
Most Jackson County court records are searched through Minnesota Court Records Online, often called MCRO. Jackson County District Court
Jackson County District Court is part of Minnesota's Fifth Judicial District. It is the county's general-jurisdiction trial court, which means it handles civil, family, probate, juvenile, criminal, and traffic cases filed in Jackson County. Minnesota does not use a county justice court, JP court, or separate county probate court for Jackson County filings. Probate matters are filed in the Probate Division of District Court.

Visit Jackson County Courthouse
The Jackson County Courthouse is at 405 Fourth Street, Jackson, MN 56143. Court Administration is on Level 2, and the official Minnesota Judicial Branch listing gives the Court Administration phone as (507) 800-7003. Use the courthouse for court records, certified court copies, court scheduling, fines, restitution, and payment questions. Do not route sheriff report requests, jail roster issues, or warrant-service questions to the court counter unless they involve an already filed court case. This office split matters because the fastest path is often the office that created the record.

What Jackson County Court Records Show

Jackson County Court Dockets
Dockets and calendars are not the same as full case files. A docket or Register of Actions is the event log for a case. A calendar shows scheduled hearings for a date. Jackson County's public daily court calendar is posted online at 7:00 a.m. each business day and updated hourly, but the court warns that not every matter appears. Printed courthouse calendars are the most current daily source.
MCRO Hearing Search can be used by name, case number, judicial officer, attorney, hearing date, case category, and court location. Confidential cases and cases not remotely accessible under Minnesota Rule of Public Access 8, subdivision 2, are not posted.
Jackson County Court Access Laws
Minnesota public access rules combine general government data law with court-specific access rules. Minnesota Statutes section 13.03 says government data is public unless classified otherwise. Court case access is shaped by the Minnesota Rules of Public Access to Records of the Judicial Branch, including Rule 8 on inspection, copying, bulk distribution, and remote access.

Access is broad but not unlimited. Juvenile, CHIPS, OFP, HRO, civil commitment, sealed, expunged, and some personal identifying information may be restricted online or withheld from public release.
Jackson County Sheriff Records
The Jackson County Sheriff's Office is at 400 Sherman Street, P.O. Box 229, Jackson, MN 56143. Sheriff Shawn Haken leads the office, which provides 24-hour service, investigates crimes and accidents, patrols county roads, serves writs and warrants, and maintains the county jail. The sheriff is the right office for law-enforcement reports, jail roster information, accident reports, and warrant-service questions.
Sheriff record requests may be made in person with a Request for Information form or by email to so-records@co.jackson.mn.us. Ongoing investigations are not released without approval, and juvenile information is restricted. Jail roster data is generated twice daily and uploaded twice daily, with a public-data disclaimer citing Minnesota Statutes sections 13.82, 13.85, and 641.05.

Jackson County Traffic and Family Records
Traffic cases are handled in District Court and through the statewide Court Payment Center for payable citations. A citation can take up to seven days from receipt before online payment or payment-center help is available. Paying a citation is a guilty plea and can result in conviction, so anyone who wants to contest must contact the court before payment.
Marriage records and licenses are not District Court records in Jackson County. The Auditor/Treasurer handles marriage licenses and certificates, and the Minnesota Official Marriage System provides a statewide county-managed marriage search. Divorce files are District Court records. Plain recent divorce copies may appear in MCRO, while certified divorce decrees come from Court Administration in the county where the divorce was granted.

Jackson County Courthouse History
Jackson County became an official political division in May 1857. The current courthouse was constructed in 1908 by Charles Skooglun of St. Paul from designs by Buechner and Orth of Minneapolis. It replaced an 1873 two-story brick and stone Italianate courthouse built after a successful bond issue.
The courthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Buildings. It has a central octagonal atrium, stained glass, marbleized plaster walls, terrazzo floors, and second-floor courtroom murals. The murals include figures for Liberty, Equality, and Justice, plus other figures around the courtroom. They were cleaned and restored in 1975.

Jackson County is building a new Law Enforcement Center and Government Center in the City of Jackson. The official county project page lists the total project cost as $41.2 million and construction start as January 2024. This project is most relevant to sheriff, jail, and county office operations, not the existing District Court case records path.
